Hartnell-Cabrillo football

Saturday's game
Hartnell (3-0) at Cabrillo (2-0), 6 p.m.
What a performance from freshman quarterback Isaiah Ariolla-Randall, who threw for 514 yards and five touchdowns in the Panthers 62-14 route at Redwoods.
Ariolla-Randall spread the ball around with touchdown passes to four different receivers, including a pair to Salinas High grad Jeff Reimer, who also took a reverse in for a touchdown run.
The Seahawks defense has allowed just 12 points all season, holding two opponents scoreless in the first half.
Offensively, Cabrillo is averaging 31 points a game, putting more of an emphasis on running the ball behind Cory Glasgow and Cole Davis, who have combined for 318 yards this fall.
Because the Seahawks have jumped out quickly on opponents, they haven't needed to throw the ball in pressure situations, having only thrown for 179 yards, with three interceptions.
By comparison, Ariolla-Randall has nearly 1,100 yards threw the air, with Weimer and Davon Owens each having 23 receptions in three games.
A struggling ground game showed glimpses of hope last week for Hartnell when David Freeman ran for 84 yards -- 42 on a touchdown run.
Having come into last week's game averaging 1.2 yards on the ground as a unit, freshman Emmanuel Ortega added 44 yards on five carries for the Panthers.
For all the offensive heroics Hartnell had on display last week, the defense has been the heart of the team, anchored by Alisal graduate Alexis Ramos and Seaside product DeMarcus Hawkins.
The pair have combined for 35 tackles and nine sacks, with Hawkins recovering two fumbles, one of which he returned 55 yards for a touchdown.
Hartnell's defense has forced 10 turnovers this season, with Salinas grad Drew Schuler recovering three fumbles and Jakari Jenkins intercepting three passes.
The versatile Hawkins also showed off his running skills last week when he took a handoff 63 yards on his first collegiate carry for a touchdown, only to have it called back because of a penalty.
After two come-from-behind wins to open the season, Hartnell needed a breathier before jumping into American Golden Coast Conference play, where four of the seven teams are still undefeated.
