Foothill (1-0) vs. Hartnell (1-0) at Rabobank, 6 p.m.
The Owls were 7-3 last season, beating Hartnell 7-3. It opened the season this fall holding Merced to seven points in a 21-7 win.
Over the last two years Foothill is 5-1 against teams from the American Golden Coast Conference, with its lone setback coming from West Hills.
Defensively, Foothill forced five turnovers last week, turning one interception into a pick six. Derje Blanks and Pookah Meleisea-Smith combined for 140 rushing yards.
Freshman receiver Jeff Reimer was a highlight reel last week for Hartnell, catching 11 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner with 22 seconds left in the game.
Isaiah Ariolla-Randelle threw for 219 yards in his Panther debut, connecting with Davon Owens six times for 76 yards. Seaside grad Deantae Williams' first collegiate catch was a touchdown.
A concern for Hartnell is establishing the running game. Sophomore Keishawn Robinson was held to 50 yards, averaging just 2.9 yards each time he touched the ball.
Hartnell's defense did force four turnovers, with DeMarcus Hawkins returning a fumble 55 yards for a touchdown.
Hawkins, the Herald's Defensive Player of the Year last fall at Seaside, compiled eight tackles and two sacks while Alisal grads Alexis Ramos and Julio Galeana each had six tackles and a sack.
While the Panthers defense recorded four sacks and had a interception, three of the four touchdowns they allowed last week came through the air.
