Final Earlybird cross country meet

One of the biggest cross country invitationals in the Central Coast Section will cease to exit after Saturday's 23rd annual Earlybird Invitational concludes at Toro Park.
A meet of this magnitude, that has attracted over 60 schools and close to 1,000 runners to Monterey County normally doesn't close its doors without a reason.
Rising costs to use Toro Park to hold these events are forcing schools to find other locations, or stop holding the meets all together.
The annual league center meets have been moved to other locations this fall. In a sport that has little or no revenue, the funds aren't there to cover the rising costs at Toro Park.
Toro Park has been a site for high school and college cross country meets for 40 years.
Perhaps it is time for a new course site, because the area is still an attraction to host meets and bring added revenue to the community.
