Cross Country Center Meets

With the Pacific Coast Athletic League dividing its cross country teams into four divisions, Center Meets will be divided into two different days.
The Mission and Santa Lucia Divisions are slated to run today at 3:30 p.m. at Natividad Creek, with the Gabilan and Cypress competing at Toro Park on Thursday.
Dual meets will be replaced by three Center Meets.
So the next question is who is in these divisions?
The Gabilan Division is made up of defending champion Alisal, along with San Benito, Palma/Notre Dame, Pacific Grove, Carmel, Gilroy, North County and Soledad.
What is Soledad doing in the Gabilan? Enrollment? Because this is a program that has never sniffed a league title from the old Mission Trail Athletic League. What happened to equity?
The Mission Division will consist of King City, Greenfield, Marina, North Salinas, Alvarez, Salinas and Pacific Collegiate.
While I like this layout, Greenfield probably belonged in the Gabilan Division based on winning the last two Mission Trail Athletic League boys titles and going to state.
The Cypress will be Watsonville, Gonzales, Seaside, Monterey, Pajaro Valley, Stevenson and York. Watsonville does have one of the top girls distance runners in the section.
And the Santa Lucia will include Monte Vista, Christopher, Oakwood, Trinity, Anzar, Kirby, Santa Catalina and St. Francis of Watsonville.
I can live with that. You have to keep in mind that teams were placed into divisions based on their  boys and girls programs.
And that's where the problem lies with some of these placements, although Soledad is a complete mystery. You can't put King City's boys program in one division and its girls in another.
Perhaps times at the league finals should dictate advancement instead of finishes.
