Friday's game
Clovis (3-0) at Salinas (0-1), 7:30 p.m.
It's been a long two weeks for the Cowboys, who have had to stew over a stunning season opening loss to Carmel.
Hopefully Salinas has used the extra week to improve its pass rush and pass defense, because Clovis is going to attack them through the air.
The Cowboys gave up nearly 350 yards and five touchdowns threw the air against Carmel, with two of those touchdowns being 75 yards or longer.
Quarterback Isaiah Robles has thrown for nearly 800 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Cougars. He has just one pick in 70 attempts this fall.
Matthew Sanchez and Reef Dove have combined for 29 receptions for 568 yards and 10 touchdowns for Clovis.
While establishing the run behind that talented offensive line triggered Salinas to a school record 10 game winning streak last fall, it's not bashful about airing it out as well.
Quarterback Carl Richardson threw for 283 yards in the teams opener, targeting John Mendalla six times.
What crippled Salinas in its opener was big plays. It gave up three touchdowns of 48 yards or longer, and turned the ball over twice in going scoreless in the second half after leading at halftime.
