MPC-Redwoods football

Saturday's game
MPC (0-0) vs. Redwoods (0-0) at Humboldt State, 1 p.m.
Coming off a share of their second straight American Golden Coast Conference title, the Lobos ran off six straight wins after an 0-2 start last fall, going 7-1 down the stretch.
MPC lost two regular season games by a total of 12 points and a postseason bowl game in overtime to finish 8-3.
Don't be mislead by Redwoods' 2-8 record last year. Two of its last three losses were by four points, including a 24-20 loss at MPC. And 40 plus freshman made up last seasons roster.
The Lobos played arguably their worst game on defense in last fall's battle with Redwoods, allowing over 500 yards in total defense.
The return of tailback Hunter Nye gives the Lobos credibility in the ground game. Last year the San Benito High graduate became the first back in five years to rush over 1,000 yards.
While quarterback Hunter Raquet has moved on to Fresno State, Brent Bailey has transferred from Fresno State, giving MPC another big arm.
Zach Kearney caught 28 passes for over 500 yards last year for MPC while tight end Jarod Davis has returned after suffering a season ending knee injury last year.
MPC's 17-5 record over the last two years is one of the top 10 marks in the state among all junior colleges. During that time, it is 7-3 on the road.
