Marina football

Piggy backing off of last year's record breaking campaign would be a logical response after Marina's impressive season opening win.
Accept there might have been more uncertainly coming into this year than expectations.
The Mariners didn't have a coach until mid-May. It's still the smallest program in the county and the CCS with no junior varsity program. And it wasn't just its helmet color that was changing.
Yet, first year coach Michael Dulisse brought immediate stability and discipline to Marina. And a sense of trust.
Outside of the programs first ever win, Friday's 30-0 decision over Fremont of Oakland might have been the biggest for Marina, who recorded the teams first ever shutout in 77 games.
Yes, this was the same Fremont program that put up 62 points at Gonzales last season, and fell to eventual state champion McClymonds in the Oakland Section playoffs in 2016.
A confidence builder? I say so.
Dating back to last season, Marina has won five straight games. By comparison, the program had 10 wins in its first 68 games.
Sure, one game is a small sample size. But you have to like the demeanor that the Mariners showed. Instead of a celebration, players acted like it was an expectation.
