King City-Seaside volleyball

Two scholarship bound athletes will grace the court as rivals tonight in Seaside, while the debate of which team should have been pushed into the Gabilan Division lingers.
An argument can be made that the Mustangs were thrown into the Gabilan Division this year strictly because of Chico State bound outside hitter Grace Shepherd.
Last fall the 6-foot Shepherd compiled over 400 kills in earning a share of the Mission Trail Athletic League's Player of the Year award. But the core of last year's 23 win team has graduated.
Seaside is coming off a 12-0 campaign in the Pacific Division. While Jordan Olivares is headed to Sacramento State to play basketball, she was among the team leaders in kills last fall.
In fact, Olivares shared the team lead in kills in the Spartans season opening win over Marina, and compiled seven service aces.
Seaside's front row includes Jocelyn Hernandez and Khrystiana Lynch, while Cecilia Reyes is one of the top returning defensive specialists in the county.
Building a relationship with new setters Ivy Hearne and Kayla Silva, Shepherd compiled 17 kills in a sweep of Alisal in the teams opener.
