Gonzales-Pacific Grove football

Friday's game
Gonzales (1-0) at Pacific Grove (1-0), 7:30 p.m.
The Breakers are coming off their first shutout in 38 games while Gonzales' 50-point eruption was its highest scoring effort in its last 35 games.
Payton Flores is coming off a 143-yard, three touchdown rushing effort for the Spartans, who haven't beaten Pacific Grove since 2002 -- 15 straight losses.
Quarterback Scooter Morales threw for 219 yards and rushed for 73 for Gonzales, with Flores on the receiving end of four catches for 51 yards last week against Morro Bay.
Having already matched last season's entire win total, the Breakers defense gave up just 137 yards in last week's win over Greenfield.
With Anthony DaSilva chewing up yards and scoring a pair of touchdowns, Pacific Grove's offense ran 15 more plays than its opponent.
Talk about two teams with contrasting offenses.
Four of Gonzales' touchdowns in its opener were of 35 yards or longer while Pacific Grove preferred the red zone route with three touchdowns inside the 10-yard line.
For all the points the Spartans produced, their defense recorded four turnovers, using a pick six from Neal Vasquez.
For two programs that started last year 0-2, one of them is going to be 2-0.
