Fremont-Marina football

Friday's game
Fremont, Oakland (0-1) vs. Marina (0-0) at MPC, 7 p.m.
The Mariners closed last season with a record setting run, establishing school marks for consecutive wins (4), league wins (4), overall wins (5) and points (279).
What makes its record point total impressive is Marina went 14 straight quarters without producing a point earlier in the season.
A member of the Oakland Athletic Section, the Tigers opened their season with a 26-20 setback last week to Ygnacio Valley.
Last fall Fremont posted an 8-3 record, beating Gonzales 62-7 in its season opener. Two years ago, it feel in the postseason to reigning state champion McClymonds.
Clearly not superstitious, new Marina coach Michael Dulisse has changed helmet colors this season, going back to a dark blue.
The Mariners are also running a new system with quarterback Michael Barrera, showcasing a short passing game, while relying on the legs of tailback Ernie Guevara.
Dulisse had hoped not to play to many players both ways early in the season. But with a roster just around 30 -- including five freshman, he may not have an option.
