Alvarez-Burlingame football

Friday's game
Alvarez (0-0) at Burlingame (0-0), 7:30 p.m.
Nothing like trial by fire to open your season if you're Alvarez first year coach Anthony Gonzales.
Burlingame has been a mismatch in three previous non-league meetings, having outscored the Eagles 127-7 -- including last year's 49-0 loss.
Alvarez, which was just 3-7 last season for the third straight year, has nine teams on its schedule that reached the postseason last year.
On the upside, the Eagles have won their last two season openers and four out of the last five. Dating back to last year, Burlingame is looking to snap a two-game losing streak.
Alvarez will look different offensively as it will run more of a throwback, old school attack designed to grind on the ground and wear down opponents.
Burlingame has rushed for over 2,100 yards as a team five straight years, having had just two 1,000 yard running backs during that time.
The Panthers were 5-0 outside their league last year. Dating back to 2012, they are 19-4 at home. An eight game road losing streak for Alvarez began in 2016 with a loss to Burlingame.
