Track and field blunder

It's really a shame when invitational track and field meets are stacked up against each other, diluting the competition in both meets.
While the long-running Bill Kearney Invitational and Top Eight Meet have traditionally fallen on the same weekend, having them on the same day was ridiculous.
Top Eight organizers moved their traditional Friday evening meet - often tabbed a prelim to the CCS Trials in five weeks - to Saturday last year.
Being that we are a small token to the rest of the section, I'm sure there was no concern about county athletes competing or not. Still it took away from an invitational that has been run for three decades.
Essentially we made some elite athletes make a choice. Most choose the annual Kearney meet. But some understandably went north with the idea of facing the best.
Accept, the best athletes weren't necessary all in attendance. It happens each season, often providing a false perception of what could transpire. Listen, things will change in five weeks anyway.
Still, in a sport starving for recognition, shrinking a meets participation isn't helping.
