Non-league games in the heart of your league season seems so odd. There's no real significance other than attempting to remain sharp during spring break.
Yet, this feels like a rivalry game when the Aztecs and Alisal meet. In fact, the two teams are facing each other at Hartnell College for the seventh time in eight years.
Granted, the game has been one-sided of late as Soledad has won the last 12 meetings, including last year's 2-0 decision.
But the Trojans program has improved in the win column five consecutive years, capturing their first league title in 12 years last season.
Behind Danny Villegas, Eduardo Garcia and Sal Lopez, the defending Pacific Division champs sit in a tie for first place at the mid-point of the season.
So does Soledad in the Mission Trail Athletic League, as sophomore Ben Pajas is spraying the ball all over the field.
Isaac Lopez and Chris Villarreal have heated up at the top of the order, while Anthony Ramirez and Andru Holguin have given the Aztecs a formidable rotation.
