What occurs in March on the track isn't always an indicator of what will unfold in May.
We've seen a program win a team title three times in the last five years after losing a dual meet in the early part of the spring.
Still, it does provide a vision of whose chasing dreams.
The Condors girls program was just as impressive as their glittering new track in opening the season with a win last week.
Now comes the perennial powers of the Gabilan Division in San Benito, a program it hasn't beaten in over a decade.
Five athletes won a combined 10 events last week for North County, including Sarah Delgado, who did a rare triple in winning the 200, 400 and 800, as well as running a leg on the 1,600 relay.
Points came in all forms and fashions as Jocelyn Cazarez won the shot and discus while Faith Mora dominated the distance events and Emily Maciel the hurdles.
Five athletes, though, won't compensate for the depth the Balers often showcase. If North County is going to challenge, its depth will have to rise to the occasion.
