Palma-Monterey volleyball

Sleepers, darkhorses.
Call them what you want. But both these teams believe they're title contenders.
Both are coming off impressive wins, with the Chieftains opening the Gabilan Division season with a four-set win over Pajaro Valley.
Monterey, who fell to Harbor in a tournament over the weekend, gained a measure of redemption on Tuesday with a sweep.
Alan Cruz and Juan Villar combined for 27 kills in three sets for the Toreadores while Ivan Garcia compiled 22 assists.
Palma's arsenal starts with Nate Leavitt and Matt Morasca, who tallied 36 kills in Tuesday's win over Pajaro.
Engineering the offense is returning setter Ben Wood, who produced 42 assists in the win.
These teams split their head-to-head battles last year. Both haven't been to the postseason since 2015.
