Last year's record breaking 16 win season and first ever postseason appearance wasn't a fluke.
In case you hadn't been paying attention, last year was the third consecutive year that the Bruins had improved in the win column, and the second straight spring they had set a school record for wins.
Knocking off defending Mission Trail Athletic League champion Pacific Grove last Friday was more of a message than a statement.
The statement started last year when Greenfield opened league play by sweeping a two-game series from Carmel, who it hosts today.
Last year three home losses kept the Bruins from a league title. This year they're off to a 3-0 start at home, including a 4-2 win over Pacific Grove.
Behind Andrew Trujillo and Alexis Zavala, pitching has been the strength of Greenfield's start, as it has not allowed more than two runs in each of its last four games.
Oscar Villagomez and Andy Epsinoza have been clutch at the plate for the Bruins.
Carmel's bats got well in a two-game series against Marina last week, erupting for 48 runs. Kevin Cook and Christian Stapleton are spraying the ball all over the field while Dylan Houpt was sharp in his last outing.
The Padres, who missed the postseason last year for the first time in nearly four decades, have won three straight after a 1-3 start.
