At 4-5 overall, this wasn't the start the Otters envisioned after earning a No. 8 Division II preseason national ranking.
Perhaps coming home to host their first games this weekend will help as CSUMB entertains Holy Names today.
After a California Collegiate Athletic Association season opening 8-4 win over CSU-East Bay, the Otters were held to one run over the next 14 innings in a pair of losses.
Missing in the conference opening series for CSUMB was reigning Division II All-American slugger Julia Garcia, who had a homer and seven runs batted in in the teams first five games.
Courtney Hennings has gotten off to a solid start for the Otters with three homers and 11 runs batted in while Marissa Hukkanen is hitting a team high .408 with a home run.
If the Otters are going to get back on their feet, it starts in the circle where reigning CCAA Freshman of the Year Hayley Fein is just 2-3 with a 3.00 earned run average.
Last year the right-hander won 30 games in the circle as the teams ace. She has split the teams starts through their first nine games.
