Michael Carrizosa

Former Palma and San Jose State punter Michael Carrizosa took part Saturday in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which is for draft eligible players.

Carrizosa, who walked on and became San Jose State’s punter in 2014, set the school record for career average at 44.0 yards per punt. He is the first Spartan punter to finish in the top five nationally in two separate seasons.

As a sophomore, Carrizosa set a single-season school record, averaging 47.5 yards a punt, finishing as a top three finalist for the Ray Guy award. He is also the first player in school history to earn all-conference honors three times.

While punters are rarely drafted, Carrizosa will likely be invited to an NFL camp this spring. He also kicked off this past fall for San Jose State.
