Hartnell-Gavilan men's hoops

For all the pop quizzes the Panthers have passed this winter, this is a mid-term -- one with potential title implications.
Undefeated in the Coast Conference at 4-0, Hartnell will play arguably its biggest conference game since 2006 tonight when it visits state ranked Gavilan.
The Panthers have been one of the early season surprises in the conference with their fast start while Gavilan is ranked 16th in the state at 17-2 overall.
One of the Rams setbacks was an 80-75 decision to Cabrillo eight days ago, a team Hartnell defeated in overtime on Jan. 3, catapulting them to a Northern California ranking.
Gavilan is a high scoring machine, averaging over 80 points a game this year. Brian King is among the conference leaders at just under 19 points a game.
Three players are averaging 12 or more points a game for Hartnell (12-6) this fall, including Spencer Conrad, who is dropping in a team high 17.5 points.
Alisal graduate Jessy Hurtado and Kishon Rogers each sit at 12.5 points a night while Rene Hurtado is putting in 9.8 points a game.
Defense has been a strength for the Panthers, who are allowing 64.5 points a game. Carson Williams is pulling down 12 rebounds while Conrad is averaging 3.2 steals.
