Monterey Bay League
Gabilan Division
1. Seaside: Knocking off North Salinas on the road was a statement that the Spartans are for real.
2. North Salinas: Is 57-3 over the last five years in winning five straight league titles.
3. Gilroy: Coming off a 17-win season, Gilroy went 8-4 in the non-league play.
4. Monte Vista: Closing the preseason winning five of six games makes them a contender.
5. North County: Don't sleep on the Condors, who won a county high nine non-league games.
6. San Benito: A promising start was interrupted by a three-game losing streak after Christmas.
7. Salinas: Limped into the league season with five consecutive losses.
Pacific Division
1. Alvarez: Went 2-2 in games decided by six points or less in non-league play.
2. Watsonville: The eight wins in the preseason was not a fluke.
3. Notre Dame: Four sophomores are making a push for league supremacy.
4. Alisal: The Trojans have already surpassed last year's entire win total.
5. Monterey: Going to be competitive when three players are combining for 52 rebounds.
6. Christopher: Growing pains continue for a program that won just one game last year.
7. Pajaro Valley: Will be competitive in a league with no clear cut favorite.
Mission Trail Athletic League
1. Stevenson: Reining league MVP Ambreece Gaskins will require double teams.
2. Pacific Grove: Has the personnel to contend for supremacy in this league.
3. Soledad: No team comes into the MTAL season playing with more confidence than the Aztecs.
4. King City: Struggled with rediscovering its identity during non-league play.
5. Greenfield: Five teams are capable of winning this league and the Bruins are one of them.
6. Carmel: Health issues were part of the reason for a winless preseason.
7. Gonzales: Having surpassed last year's win total, looking to end a 19-game league losing streak.
8. Santa Catalina: Was 0-6 before taking a 28-day break between games for the Christmas Holidays.
Coastal Athletic League
1. Pacific Collegiate: Has won six of the last eight CAL titles.
2. Kirby: Reigning league champions have won 12 straight CAL games.
3. Marina: Don't be mislead by a winless preseason. It won't face anyone better in the CAL.
4. Anzar: May have been the biggest surprise last year in the CAL.
5. Oakwood: Could be a sleeper team, having already equaled last year's entire win total.
6. York: Has just one game under its belt going into league play.
7. Ceiba College Prep: First year program plays its first game Thursday.
