Carmel-Pacific Grove boys hoops

It's a rivalry that gets the juices flowing no matter the records.
But it certainly spices things up when both the Padres and Pacific Grove are undefeated in the Mission Trail Athletic League.
A wave of emotion that began with a win on Dec. 21 has carried over into league play for the reigning four-time league champion Breakers, who have won seven straight games.
Among those wins were victories over Seaside and Salinas, who are both in first place in their respective leagues.
Carmel has been an offensive machine in MTAL play, averaging just under 75 points a game behind freshman JT Byrne and sophomore Kai Lee.
The pair are averaging nearly 35 points a game between them. Before thinking the moment of a big game adds pressure, keep in mind that both played varsity football last fall.
Byrne has been a double-double machine with his 6-foot-6 frame, fitting in nicely with 6-5 senior Kevin Cook and his 12 plus points a game.
During its seven game winning streak, Pacific Grove has not allowed an opponent over 50 points, as  a tenacious defense is suffocating opponents.
Jalen Killian is dropping in nearly 13 points a game for the Breakers while Ian Sinclair-Fox and Tyler Poppino compliment each other in the paint.
In addition, sophomore Josh Cryns has provided the offense with another dimension, while junior Jack Sendell has had a knack for the dramatic this winter.
