For most, it will be the final time putting on a football uniform. For all involved, it’s the final game as a high school football player.
The 33rd Central Coast high school all-star football game will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. at Rabobank Stadium in Salinas.Salinas coach Steven Zenk will guide one side while Jubenal Rodriguez of Gilroy will coach the other. Both coaches won league and Central Coast Section titles this past fall in their respective divisions.
Over 20 schools will have at least one participant in the all star game. In addition to all the Monterey County teams, Aptos, Gilroy, Christopher and San Benito were invited.
Among those expected to take part include The Herald’s Offensive Player of the Year in Salinas quarterback Brett Reade, who rushed and threw for over 1,000 yards, scoring 32 touchdowns.
DeMarcus Hawkins, who has received interested from San Jose State and Sacramento State, piled up over 1,400 rushing yards last year and recorded 101 tackles and 11 sacks for Seaside.
In addition Pacific Division Player of the Year Andrew Marquez of Alisal will take part along with King City co-Mission Trail Athletic League Defensive Player of the Year Clay Barbree and Soledad record setting quarterback Robbie Santa Ana.
