Trinity (18-7, 9-1)
Despite losing its Most Valuable Player and two starters, Trinity welcomed a move to the Mission Trail Athletic League this winter.
After two straight Coastal Athletic League titles and an 18-2 league record, the Warriors warranted a move to the MTAL.
"We'll have to play as a core to win games in the MTAL,'' Trinity coach Tie Sims said. "We do not have that big stud. And our two seniors moved.''
Don't mistake that for the cupboard being bare at Trinity. Look for 6-foot-4 Cameron Hill to have an impact in his sophomore season.
Tyler Swedberg has also returned for the Warriors, giving them a tenacious defender, who can knock down jump shots from the perimeter, as evident by a 23 point outing recently.
Sims also believes he has one of the top freshman in the county on his roster in Chase Perez, who will be asked to handle the point for Trinity.
Perez's older brother Dre was the school's all-time leading scorer until last year when Jamez Booker broke it.
"I feel we've done a good job in developing our players,'' Sims said. "So that will help us with the transition to a bigger league. It won't be anything we haven't seen.''
Trinity beat two MTAL teams last year and a Pacific Division school. It was knocked out of the CCS Division V playoffs by Stevenson.
The return of 6-4 Michael Petty and 6-2 Christopher Wright gives Trinity some muscle inside while Wyatt Hankard is another option on the outside.
"I know we can compete,'' Sims said. "We've proven that. It will be tough. But it will serve us when we get to the Division V playoffs.''
