North Salinas girls hoops tournament

  The Vikings wanted to strengthen their schedule this season, and that includes their tournament as defending champion Aptos and unbeaten Seaside are a part of Thursday's eight-team field.
 Coming off a 26 win season, Aptos is off to a 3-1 start this winter while Seaside is unbeaten at 4-0, which each win being by 15 or more points.
 Natalia Ackerman is averaging nearly 19 points a game for Aptos while teammate Hannah Hocom is knocking down 15 points a night.
 The Spartans are lead by reigning Pacific Division Most Valuable Player Jordan Olivares while Daja Mitchell has been dropping double-doubles.
 The reigning five-time Gabilan Division champion Vikings are just 3-2, with setbacks to Hilmar and Menlo-Atherton.
 Also taking part in the tournament is a resurgent Notre Dame squad, who is off to a surprising 5-2 start this year, as well as King City, Alvarez, Scotts Valley and Soledad.
