Freshman Emilio Martinez finished his first season for the University of San Diego football team with a team leading 1,043 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
Named to the All-Pioneer League second team as a tailback, Martinez averaged 5.3 yards each time he touched the ball for the Toreros. He also caught 20 passes for 163 yards and returned 24 kickoffs for a team high 584 yards, averaging 24.3 yards per return.
For the season, Martinez compiled a team leading 1,680 all purpose yards for San Diego, who fell in the NCAA Division I FCS playoffs to North Dakota State, finishing 10-3 on the season.
Martinez set single season and career rushing and touchdown records at Palma, rushing for nearly 2,500 yards and 39 touchdowns last fall. He was also a Gabilan Division league champion in track in the 100, 200 and 400 relay last spring.
