Soledad football

There is an expectation at Soledad. League titles. Sections titles. Those are realistic goals each season for this program.
The Aztecs bit to repeat the feat as a section champion fizzled in the fourth quarter in a loss to Scotts Valley in the Division V playoffs last Friday.
Yet, the fact that there high expectations is what Soledad coach Frankie Berlanga will build upon in the off-season.
"You can learn something from anything,'' Berlanga said. "We're in a conversation each year when it comes to titles. Over time we've changed the mindset here.''
Over the last two years, Soledad has won a Central Coast Section divisional title and a Mission Trail Athletic League championship.
It set a school record for wins last year with 10 and has gone 17-6 over the last two years, tying them for the most wins in the county with Palma.
Berlanga retooled the defense this year. Now he'll have to rework the offense next fall as 3,000 plus yards of offense is graduating.
Still, three straight trips to the playoffs doesn't happen by accident. The cupboard won't be bare. The hunger from those coming back will be greater next season to meet those expectations.
