Salinas football

I wouldn't call them overconfident. And I don't think the Cowboys were overlooking Palo Alto, even with its 3-8 record.
I just think it's harder than it appears to live up to expectations when you've rattled off eight straight wins.
You can't be on your 'A' game each week -- in any form of life. And that's what makes Salinas' 14-7 come-from-behind win as impressive as any this year.
The Cowboys found a way to win in arguably the biggest game of the season. In the playoffs, it's one and done if you're on the wrong side of the win column.
During Salinas' run to a Gabilan Division title, it never trailed in a game in the second half. Starring at a deficit in the third quarter to Palo Alto challenged their mentality.
The Cowboys offense responded with one of their most impressive drives of the year, using a Brett Reade touchdown run to retake the lead.
A defense that has held three opponents to a touchdown or less during this streak, stopped Palo Alto earlier in the game after being on the field for nine plus minutes.
And Drew Schuler came up with an interception late in the fourth quarter to ensure a Thanksgiving Day practice.
The pressure isn't going to subside. But Salinas can take a deep breath and exhale. Head coach Steve Zenk has preached one thing all year -- enjoy the moment.
