Friday's game
Soquel (4-4) vs. Marina (4-5) at MPC, 6 p.m.
Three weeks ago the Mariners were mired in the worst scoring slump in school history, having gone 13 plus quarters without a point.
What has transpired since is two of the top three scoring outbursts in school history, and a win over Santa Cruz, knocking them from the unbeaten ranks in the Coastal Division.
All of a sudden Marina is on the verge of school history, as a win will break the single-season mark victories, giving the program its first ever .500 or better season.
The Mariners, who are averaging 51 points a game during their three game winning streak, need 24 points to break the single-season school record for total points.
Fermin Gabot has been a beast at tailback for Marina with quarterback Will Leander having rushed or thrown for 13 touchdowns in the last three games.
For all the offensive production, the Mariners defense has allowed just 41 points during this winning streak, 21 of those points coming in the fourth quarter when the game was well in hand.
Soquel struggled in stopping the run last week, giving up over 500 yards and seven touchdowns in a 50-48 loss to Greenfield.
Nolan Mass has rushed for over 1,000 yards for the Knights, including 268 last week, and has over 100 tackles on defense. Soquel is 3-1 in games decided by six points or less.
