Saturday's game
Soledad (5-3) at San Lorenzo Valley (4-4), 2 p.m.
An unheralded Aztecs defense has come of age of late, having not allowed a touchdown in their last 10 quarters.
This is a dangerous team going into the postseason, as Soledad has its health and confidence, having gone 5-1 since opening the season with a pair of losses.
Ironically, the Aztecs took a similar path last year in capturing the programs first CCS Division IV title, closing 10-1 after an 0-2 start.
San Lorenzo Valley has outscored opponents 153-9 in its four wins, but has scored just 58 points in four losses. It has outscored the opposition 97-37 in the second quarter.
Mark Carling is coming off a three-touchdown effort for the Cougars while Trent Walker is nearing 1,000 passing yards.
Arguably the most dangerous player in the Mission Division this year has been Angel Olivas, who is averaging over 20 yards a reception, with eight touchdown catches for the Aztecs.
The return of Emmanuel Ortega last week gives the Soledad ground game a boast, as he nearly has 800 rushing yards in just five full games.
