Salinas-Catalina volleyball

If any program is going to be a threat to the Cougars run of 31 straight regular season wins, it will be Salinas, who invades 'The Cougars Den' tonight.
A State Northern California Division V finalist last year, the Cougars sent a message last night with a sweep of defending Central Coast Section Division IV champion Monte Vista.
Despite having had just a handful of practices as a team this fall, the chemistry that propelled Santa Catalina to a county record 27-0 start last year is in place.
This is virtually the same team that put together one of the greatest runs in county history. The same can be said for Salinas, who fell in five sets to Santa Catalina last year.
Two of the best hitters in the county will be trading shots tonight in the Cougars Maria Santos and Cal Poly-SLO bound Taylor Rose.
While Santa Catalina feels it has strengthen itself in the middle of the net this year, it will be tested with 6-foot-4 Savanna Maker roaming the front row for Salinas.
It's an area the Cowboys will attack behind setter Jennifer Foley, until Santa Catalina proves it can disrupt it.
The Cougars strength has been their discipline and defense, anchored by senior libero Olivia Satow, who gets the ball into the hands of setter McKinley Fox.
The 6-foot-1 four-year starter can set the ball to the likes of Santos, Saige Madden or Alicia Rector, who quietly compiled 10 kills in Santa Catalina's sweep of Monte Vista.
