The defending co-Pacific Division champion Toreadores didn't lose a league match last fall unit they were 11 games into the season.
While one league game doesn't dictate a season, dropping its opener does create a little anxiety for Monterey, who faces Palma tonight at Watsonville.
A 10 game winning streak last year put the Toreadores on a path to the programs first regular season title.
The return of sniper Connor Hertsch and his team leading 52 goals, along with Dylan Gibbs, gives Monterey enough offense. How fast the defense comes together is critical.
Palma is back in the Pacific Division after going a combined 3-21 over the last two seasons in the Gabilan Division.
Prior to that, the Chieftains had won three straight league titles, including two in the Pacific. They opened the year with a 15-13 win over Gilroy.
