Arguably the two most consistent programs over the last 30 years get reacquainted tonight in an early season statement match.
While the Mustangs have not beaten Notre Dame since 2010 in a non-tournament match, last year's epic five-set battle was a reminder of how good this rivalry has been.
Of course, King City isn't looking for moral victories. Last year its only non-tournament loss in the preseason came from the Spirits.
It's no secret that the ball is headed in the direction of Grace Shepherd, who is coming off a 300 kill season for King City. The 5-foot-11 junior has worked with setter Megan Flores for three years.
The Spirits have played the first two matches without regular setter Spencer Hagenbuch and her 800 plus sets from last year, as she recovers from a concussion.
Kennedy McDermott has filled in well, getting the ball into the hands of Meghan Amaral and Logan Riggenbach.
The Spirits have been to the State Northern California Division V playoffs the last three years while King City is one of only two teams in the county to ever play for a state title.
