For now the focus is on tonight, where the undefeated Spartans will host their neighbors to the west for first place.
Monterey and Seaside are the only two undefeated teams left in a competitive and balanced Pacific Division -- this after just one week of league play.
The two teams have not been league rivals since 2011. The last time Monterey was in the Pacific, it won the league title.
The Toreadores strength starts at the net with Jhailyn Bryant, who is averaging over 11 kills a match this fall.
Seaside setter Cecilia Reyes-Santos has a handful of hitters to spread the ball around. Among them is Jocelyn Hernandez, who has compiled nearly 80 kills this season.
Defense has been a strength for the Spartans, as Kyana Aledo has been a vacuum in the back row.
