Friday's game
Gonzales (0-3) at King City (0-2), 7:30 p.m.
The oldest running rivalry in Monterey County finds itself in a strange spot playing in Week 4 of the season for the first time ever.
The Mustangs have won the last 13 meetings for the 'Mega Horn', with Gonzales last prevailing 7-0 in 2003.
Since then it's been a one-sided affair on the field, with the average margin of victory being 27 points a game, including last year's 54-7 Mustangs win.
Both teams are struggling right now for an identity. King City has been outscored 28-0 in the second quarter while Gonzales been outscored 37-0 in the third quarter.
Raul Morales has thrown for 422 yards for the Spartans, with a third of his throws going to Dominic Emery.
Losing quarterback Tommy Stephens for the season on the second play of a jamboree didn't cripple the Mustangs. But it hurt. Adjustments have been on the fly.
Receiver Clay Barbree may as well have a bulls eye on his jersey the way opponents are yelling his number before each play.
Both of King City's setbacks have come from Gabilan Division opponents who are a combined 5-1. The Spartans have two losses to teams outside the CCS that are a combined 5-1.
