Carmel-Scotts Valley football

Friday's game
Carmel (2-3) at Scotts Valley (3-1), 7:30 p.m.
Some called it an epic finish. Others a complete collapse.
Scotts Valley watched a 14-point lead in the final two minutes vanish when Carmel scored twice to force overtime.
Then after trading touchdowns, the Falcons choose to go for two, failing to convert in a 21-20 loss.
I doubt the same decision would be made today, if for no other reason than the two teams are league rivals now.
Having won eight of the last nine Mission Trail Athletic League titles, the Padres have their backs to the wall after failing to hold a 14-point lead last week in succumbing to Soledad.
No team over the last two plus decades has won an MTAL title with two losses.
Carmel's three overall losses have come from two teams a combined 10-0 and the defending CCS Division IV champions. Scotts Valley's only setback was to Terra Nova, who is undefeated on the field.
No lead has been save for the Padres, who have lead in every game, holding as much as 21-point and 14-point advantages in the second half.
In each of those games, they have failed to score an offensive touchdown in the second half. Scotts Valley has mustered three points in the fourth quarter.
Luke Melcher has scored eight touchdowns for Carmel, returning a kickoff for six, while Rashaan Ward has caught four touchdown passes.
Ryan Conte is on pace for 1,000 rushing yards for the Falcons while Kyle Rajala has been sharp behind center in the teams three wins.
