Friday's game
Burlingame (2-0) at Alvarez (2-0), 7:30 p.m.
The Panthers have been an offensive machine through their first two games with 102 points, relying on a ground game that is averaging nearly eight yards each time it touches the ball.
Matt Martinez is coming off a single-game passing record for Alvarez, throwing for 249 yards and three touchdowns in last weeks win over Alisal.
The Eagles defense has risen to the occasion in their first two games, having allowed just 13 points while creating six turnovers.
But this will be a measuring stick for Alvarez, who has been outscored 78-7 in its last two games by the Panthers. This is more about respect than redemption.
The Eagles will have to slow down Burlingame's backfield duo of Alec Meredith and Savauh Brown, who have combined for nearly 300 yards and six touchdowns.
Martinez has been sharp and smart in two starts, having yet to throw a pick for Alvarez. He has also rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown.
Michael Ramirez has over 200 rushing and receiving yards for the Eagles, having rushed for a pair of touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass.
