Friday's game
Aptos (2-2) at Seaside (3-1), 7:30 p.m.
After going six straight quarters without a point, the Mariners erupted last week for 35 points in the second half in a statement win over Palma.
Aptos doesn't hide from the fact that it's going to run the ball -- and it ran it well last week against the Chieftains in its Gabilan Division debut.
The Spartans gave up 338 yards on the ground last week in suffering their first loss of the season to Salinas.
If Seaside is putting the ball in the air 30 plus times, as was the case last week, that's probably not a good sign. DeMarcus Hawkins has rushed for 581 yards and nine touchdowns.
An opportunist Seaside defense created eight turnovers in its first three wins, but didn't produce one against Salinas.
Aptos has outscored the opposition 93-25 in its two wins. One of its losses was by a point. The two teams it has fallen to are a combined 8-1. It has yet to allow a point in the third quarter.
Junior Marcos Reyes, who rushed for over 400 yards and six touchdowns last year as a third option, has been the Mariners primary back this fall.
