Alisal-Gilroy football

Friday's game
Alisal (1-3) at Gilroy (4-0), 7:30 p.m.
The Mustangs haven't started a year 4-0 since opening the 2008 season 8-0 en route to a Tri-County Athletic League title.
Two of their four wins have come against a league champion and a program that reached the Open Division III semifinals last year.
Last year's playoff push, which saw Gilroy reach the Central Coast Section Division IV semi's, has carried over this fall behind tailback Joseph Barnes, who has nearly 700 yards in three games.
Barnes, who rushed for over 1,500 yards and 22 touchdowns last year, sat out last week's 44-8 win over Harbor.
The third quarter has been where Gilroy has separated itself from the opposition, outscoring teams 55-8.
Alisal isn't hiding from the fact that quarterback Andrew Marquez is going to run with the football, having produced seven of the teams nine touchdowns this year.
The senior has three touchdown runs of 40 yards or longer. Yet, it was his 26 yard run to the 1-yard line that set up the game winning touchdown in last week's upset of North Salinas.
A common opponent is Live Oak, who Gilroy defeated 47-28 while Alisal fell in its opener 34-13.
One possession has decided Alisal's last two games. Both have gone down to the final 30 seconds. The two teams have split their last two meetings.
