Dating back to 2015, the Padres have won 12 straight regular season games, handing Willow Glen a 41-7 setback last year.
Over the last eight years, Carmel has won more games than any other team in the county with a 91-15 overall record. Seven of those setbacks have come in the postseason.
Owners of eight Mission Trail Athletic League titles in the last nine years, the Padres have averaged over 40 points a game during that span.
Tyler Hawkins and his nearly 500 rushing yards are back for Willow Glen, as is Connell Reyes, who caught 46 passes for 708 yards and three touchdowns last fall.
Defense was an Achilles heel for the Rams last year, as they gave up 40 or more points six times, all setbacks.
Luke Melcher rushed for over 100 yards in each of his two starts last fall for Carmel as a sophomore, and returned two punts for touchdowns.
Sophomore Kai Lee is expected to start at quarterback. He'll be the fourth quarterback in the last 12 years to start for the Padres as a sophomore.
