Seaside-Soledad football

Friday's game
Seaside (0-0) at Soledad (0-0), 7:30 p.m.
The reigning Central Coast Section Division IV champion Aztecs lost just one home game last fall en route to setting a school record for wins and home wins.
That setback came from Seaside, who posted a 26-10 decision in last year's season opener. In 2015, the rolls were reversed as Soledad went on the road and rolled to a 26-6 decision.
With most schools in the county playing on synthetic turf fields, both teams are throwbacks, playing home games on grass.
Anchored behind DeMarcus Hawkins' 18 1/2 sacks last year -- three against Soledad -- the Spartans first unit held seven teams to a touchdown or less.
Stopping Emmanuel Ortega will be Seaside's mission. Last year the Aztec tailback rushed for nearly 1,800 yards. Aaron Rodriguez and his 28 receptions from last fall are also back.
The 218-pound Hawkins will likely get 10 to 15 touches running the ball as well for Seaside. Daniel Sayre is a deep threat on the outside. He also intercepted seven passes last year.
