Seaside football

Al Avila felt Seaside's defense didn't have its swagger.
 What happens when it does?
The Spartans held defending Central Coast Section Division IV champion Soledad to a touchdown until midway into the fourth quarter of a 31-12 decision.
"We can be much better,'' insisted Avila.
And that defense may have to be as the Spartans get closer to the start of the Gabilan Division.
Mistakes were covered up playing in the Pacific Division last fall. Which is why Avila is preaching the importance of discipline now.
This is a defense that will create havoc with pass rushing demon DeMarcus Hawkins and Gabriel Tulau coming off the other edge.
Hawkins, though, put on a show on the offensive side, rushing for three touchdowns while catching a touchdown pass.
Until the Spartans are at full strength, Hawkins will likely see extensive action on both sides of the ball. That could be a tall order in the Gabilan
