Friday's game
Oak Grove (0-1) at Salinas (0-0), 7:30 p.m.
The Eagles are looking to bounce back after a humbling 35-0 loss to St. Francis in their opener last week.
Oak Grove has dropped just three games to CCS opponents in the last two years -- all three to teams from the WCAL, including St. Francis twice.
The Cowboys had an extra week to prepare for Oak Grove, having an unconventional Week 1 bye to the season.
Salinas -- which comes into the season having made nine straight playoff appearances - has dropped six of its last eight season openers.
The two teams have met twice in the playoffs, with the Cowboys prevailing 32-29 in the 1979 CCS semifinals, and Oak Grove returning the favor 17-14 in the 1982 playoffs.
Salinas' offense was crisp at the Salinas City Jamboree two weeks ago, as quarterback Brett Reade took the first play from scrimmage and sprinted 40 yards for a touchdown.
The Cowboys defense allowed just 39 points in five wins last year. But in their last four loses, they gave 101 points.
