King City-Monte Vista football

Wednesday's game
King City (0-0) at Monte Vista (0-0), 7:30 p.m.
Opening your season without your starting quarterback is not ideal. But King City does not have a choice after Tommy Stephens injured his knee in last week's South County Jamboree.
An MRI this week will determine the severity of the injury. But he will not play against Monte Vista. Stephens threw for over 1,800 yards and 17 touchdowns last fall.
To a degree, it's a double loss for King City as Stephens intercepted six passes last year, returning one for a pick six.
Monte Vista has reached the postseason six of the last seven seasons, going 9-3 in league play since moving into the Gabilan Division.
It has beaten King City three straight times and has not lost a season opener since 2009. New coach Bruce Dini will bring his aerial assault from Stevenson.
Cody Paresa rushed for seven touchdowns last fall for Monte Vista, who was gutted at several key positions by graduation.
Luis Luna will be inserted at quarterback for King City, having tossed a pair of touchdowns in last week's jamboree to all-league tight end Clay Barbree.
