Jack Powers

Jack Powers will begin his final season of college football, vying for a starting job as a defensive end for the University of Virginia football team.
The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Powers, who transferred to Virginia after playing two seasons at Arizona State on the offensive line, sat out the 2015 season before returning to football and switching positions.
Powers appeared in all 12 games last fall for the Cavaliers, starting two games. He broke up three passes in one game and had three tackles against Virginia Tech and a sack against Pittsburgh.
Powers, whose family resides in Santa Cruz, prepped at Palma, where he was The Herald’s Defensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2012.
