Half Moon Bay-Pacific Grove baseball

Central Coast Section Division II playoffs
Wednesday's game
No. 14 Half Moon Bay (13-13) at No. 3 Pacific Grove (16-11), 4 p.m.
This game intrigues me for one reason.
The Mission Trail Athletic League champion Breakers are still looking for their first win outside league play.
Pacific Grove went 0-9 in non-league play. Before suggesting that was a long time ago, its last non-league loss was on April 26.
Seven of its nine non-league losses were by five runs or more. It might be noted, however, that eight of the nine teams the Breakers fell to in non-league play are in the postseason.
 Does it matter?
 From a mental standpoint, maybe?
From a talent standpoint, Pacific Grove is as good as any program in Division II with two talented young arms in Hunter Hanes and Kevahn Ebron.
Pacific Grove coach Gil Ruiz didn't soften his non-league schedule this year just because his team lacked experience.
Of course, when you've played 27 games, the experience has arrived. So have the playoffs. This is why Ruiz scheduled those games -- for this moment.
