Gonzales football

Art Berlanga isn't looking at this as a long term rebuilding project.
In fact, the first thing Gonzales' new head football coach will tell the kids today in a noon meeting is he expects the Spartans to compete for a playoff spot this coming fall.
Gonzales named Berlanga the programs new head football coach last night.
With the hire comes energy and anticipation.
Berlanga is no stranger to resurrecting programs. Before a four-year tenure at Hartnell, he joined his brother Frankie at Soledad six years ago and helped turn a three-win team into a six-win unit.
Of course, it won't be a simple task. Gonzales hasn't snipped the postseason in 13 years. It's coming off a 1-9  season.
Yet, with the Mission Trail Athletic League going to a two division format this fall with the addition of five teams from the old SCCAL, his vision of competing is a reality.
