Henry Blaul's bid to return to the state swimming championships for York heats up today in the CCS swimming prelims at Santa Clara Swim Center.
The junior comes into the meet with the top mark in the Central Coast Section in the 100 yard breast at 56.97. He's also ranked No. 3 in the 200 individual medley (1:53.05).
Last year Blaul splashed onto the scene as a sophomore, finishing second in the 100 breast in 56.22. He has a career best of 55.94.
Blaul has swam a career best 1:49.66 in the 200 IM, which would move him into title contention if achieved at the section finals.
Gabilan Division 500 free champion Parker Costa will go into the meet vying for a spot in the finals for Monterey, as he's seeded No. 10 at 4:45.94.
Carmel's dynamic dual in diving in JeanPaul Ditto and Leo Gonzalez-Smith are in state contention as Ditto is ranked fifth and Gonzalez-Smith sixth.
Nicolas Sullivan is ranked 12th in the section in the 200 free (1:44.63) for Palma, just a arms length ahead of Costa at 1:44.91.
The top 16 at Friday's prelims advance to Saturday's finals.
Mission Trail Athletic League champion Will Morgan comes into the section meet ranked 12th in the 50 free (21.86) and 100 free (48.11). Matthew Trotter is ranked 13th in the 100 fly (52.65).
