Notre Dame softball

Just once in the Spirits illustrious softball history has the program started the season 11-0.
That year Notre Dame set a single-season school record with 31 wins in opening the spring with 22 straight wins.
Notre Dame is halfway to that record setting start.
Can we draw comparisons to that 2004 squad that ended up 31-1?
That would be unfair as the 2004 team featured four Division I softball players, not to mention a DIAA volleyball player.
Still, this is as impressive of a start as we have seen on the diamond.
Oh, there's no doubt that this current squad will have a handful of players play college softball as well.
Apparently others have taken note of Notre Dame's dynamic start.
MaxPreps has Notre Dame ranked No. 6 in the state and No. 30 in the nation after posting wins over perennial state powers Mitty and St. Francis of Mountain View.
Yes, the Spirits have been battle tested.
Vanessa Gonzalez is now a polished junior hurler, not the freshmen that pitched the Spirits to a CCS Division III title two years ago.
The lineup is stacked with a pair of four year starters in Aly Gomonet and Spencer Hyosaka, And it has some power in the heart of the lineup.
You don't want to look to far into the crystal ball. The Gabilan Division is deep. But awaiting Notre Dame in 25 days is reigning Gabilan Division champion San Benito.
The Spirits were 22-0 in 2004 before falling 1-0 on the road to San Benito.

CalHiSports.com just ranked the Spirits at #18 in the state and Maxpreps has them at #6 in the state and #30 in the nation. They are on the radar and looking like a very strong team. Time will tell if they are at the level of the 2004 team, but they are having a great start and defeated some very good teams so far.
