Monterey-Carmel volleyball

The defending league champion Padres have quietly rattled off 15 straight league wins over the last two years  -- 11 of which have been by sweeps.
Monterey is an emotional game for Camel head coach Israel Ricardez, since it's where he honed his own skills as a player and later a coach.
Carmel is playing at another level right now behind 6-foot-5 Jared McNally and Keegan Forrester, who have combined for 138 kills.
The Padres have run a 5-2 attack behind setters Charlie DeLapa and Ezra Delbick. Yet, Ricardez hopes to go with a 6-2 once Ben Airola's shoulder heels.
The respect Carmel has gathered is evident in its schedule, as it was invited to compete this weekend in the Dos Pueblos Invitational at UC Santa Barbara.
Don't sleep on Monterey, who has four returning players from last year's squad, having dropped a five-set match to Palma on Tuesday.
