As forgettable as Seaside's non-league season was, league play has turned into a memorable ride.
Owners of a nine-game winning streak, the Spartans (9-1) can wrap up no worse than a share of the Pacific Division title tonight with a win over rival Monterey.
That potentially could set up a battle for the title outright on Thursday at 8-2 Watsonville, a team the Spartans defeated 46-43 on Jan. 24.
That 3-8 non-league record is in the rear view mirror as the Spartans regrouped after a league opening loss to put together the second longest current winning streak in the county.
Sophomore Jordan Olivares has evolved into one of the premier all around players in the league, as opponents have put an emphasis on containing her.
That has enabled Alonis Ingram to have a coming out year for Seaside, dropping in 15 points in the teams last battle.
Defensively, the Spartans have held nine of their 10 league opponents under 40 points as Marianne Tuazon has been a rebounding machine while Deja Gerard has created havoc at the top.
